Vegan Concealer Options To Fit In Your Slow Beauty Routine

A vegan concealer is an excellent way to brighten your complexion and lift your features instantly. It is a staple in most makeup bags and kits.

However, there are still so many brands that test on animals and use animal components in their concealer. Sure, animal products aren’t really necessary in concealers but do know that ingredients like beeswax or lanolin are still pretty prevalent in cosmetics.

We curated a list of trusted brands that will give you excellent results and coverage. Using vegan concealer doesn’t mean you have to give up quality or efficiency.

Quite the contrary, there are so many brands that make high-quality concealers that are just as good and well-performing as mainstream products.

However, we must emphasize that when we talk about covering up blemishes or imperfections, we don’t mean that it isn’t okay to have them! Natural skin will have texture, fine lines, pores, etc. Undereyes will not always be perfect nor bright.

We do not presume to know or dictate what you will use makeup for. We will talk about coverage and what the product CAN do for you, even though we would like to encourage you to find your kind of slow beauty.

Clove + Hallow - USA

Clove + Hallow Vegan Concealer

Clove + Hallow is all about uncompromising cosmetics. Founded by a professional make-up artist, C+H is an award-winning brand delivering only excellence in their cosmetics. They have a philosophy of crafting high-impact products while using minimalist formulas of less than 15 ingredients. Scientific, botanical, and most of all, effective, C+H truly offers something great.

About The Concealer

The Conceal + Correct is a lightweight concealer that provides buildable medium coverage. This is a clean vegan concealer that actually works.

You can achieve maximum coverage for this concealer by layering and building the product. When doing so, it will not crack nor crease. It will conceal imperfections that you may want to hide such as blemishes or dark spots.

It comes in a modest range of 10 shades, with just a couple for deep skin tones. We would have liked to see more, especially for deeper skin shades and we hope they release more in the future.

This cruelty-free concealer comes with a wand applicator for easier use. For those of you who struggle when using tubs or tins, this might be a better option. Application is standard. Dot where deemed necessary and blend with whatever tool you have available. Your fingers, a brush, a sponge, it’s all up to you.

With its weightless wear and a naturally flawless finish, this cruelty-free concealer has all you will need.

Ingredients & Packaging

Clove + Hallow has a pretty strong policy regarding their ingredients. As we’ve mentioned, they do not use any more than 15 ingredients in each product as part of their Clean15 initiative.

This initiative promotes awareness of what clean beauty really means. There are tons of misconceptions about many ingredients that aren’t labeled natural, organic, or the like.

In reality, though, good ingredients don’t always mean natural, and natural doesn’t always mean good. When we talk about brands that use natural products, we always take the information with a grain of salt.

The Clean15 philosophy is intended to simplify beauty and allow customers to make conscious choices about what they buy. The more consumers understand the product, the higher the likelihood of them making an informed choice.

Here are some of the ingredients in this concealer:

  • Coconut Alkanes
  • Jojoba Esters
  • Candelilla Wax
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • Vitamin E
  • Argan Oil

You may check out the full roster on the product listing. Unfortunately, we could not find any information on product packaging – an area we can only encourage the brand to be more transparent about. If you are uncertain about what truly makes packaging earth-friendly, check out this detailed analysis.

Brand Values

Clove + Hallow has always been about evoking a sense of warmth through clean beauty. And as you may have realized, clean beauty is quite an ambiguous term.

There are no regulations that tell us what is clean and what isn’t. To be clear, natural doesn’t mean clean or safe. Natural can be great in most cases, and it’s something we prioritize as well, but it isn’t a universal law.

C + H takes a more holistic approach to clean beauty. They use ingredients that they have deemed safe through independent studies of existing literature and consultations with experts.

All products are made within the USA but are subject to EU standards.

They also give back to the community by way of certain product sales. Read more about how they contribute to the fight against mental health stigma here.

River Organics - USA

Formulated for all skin types, River Organics is an independent beauty company in North Carolina. Their makeup line is thoughtfully made and super hydrating. Founded by an Art Historian and a natural product chemist, the husband and wife duo offers something ethical and sustainably to the beauty community.

About The Concealer

The River Organics zero-waste concealer is a super creamy and soft, cruelty-free, and fully vegan concealer that comes in 7 shades.

Unfortunately, most shades lean towards the light to medium range and there’s only one for deep tones. It’s clear that the clean beauty industry still has a long way to go in making their products inclusive of different skin types and shades.

This is not a full coverage vegan concealer, but it can cover your dark circles just fine. It’s great for evening out your skin tone and managing fine lines. Because this is a light coverage formula, it will help you achieve a natural finish much easier.

The product comes in a pot, so you’ll need to use your fingers or a makeup tool to grab some product. You also have the option of buying the concealer with their bamboo concealer brush.

If you want more suggestions on brushes, go to our roundup on vegan makeup brushes.

Ingredients & Packaging

This concealer is cruelty-free, vegan, and is made of nourishing ingredients that will take care of your skin and take care of blemishes.

It’s one of those eye concealers that’s super easy to wear throughout the day. It blends easily and won’t dry your skin out throughout the day.

Here are the cruelty-free components you’ll find:

  • Apricot Kernel Oil
  • Shea Butter
  • Candelilla Wax
  • Titanium dioxide
  • Arrowroot Powder
  • Zinc Oxide
  • Moringa Seed Oil
  • Camellia Seed Oil
  • Iron oxides
  • Tocopherol

As far as concealer formulas go, this one actually has quite a short list. Most of these ingredients are certified organic.

Plant oils are the basis of each formula, and that’s pretty evident here as well. River Organics build on what potent botanicals can offer for the skin and they supplement it with other safe and hydrating ingredients.

One of the best things about this product is that it comes in zero-waste paper packaging. Many of the products we featured in this list lack in terms of sustainable packaging.

We love to see that this brand is taking the necessary steps and looking for better options. Each package is delivered in recycled envelopes from Eco enclose and labels are sugarcane-based.

Brand Values

At their core, River Organics is about creating a simplified approach to beauty. As we could well observe from their policies on ingredients and packaging, they take sustainability seriously as well.

Aside from those, you can also opt to donate to carbon offsets through carbon checkout whenever you make a purchase.

They also give back to the community. In 2021, they are donating part of every purchase to The Coral Restoration Foundation. You can read more about it here.

Dirty Hippie Cosmetics - Australia

Dirty Hippe Cosmetics is a family-run business focused on the conscious creation of makeup and skincare. They are fully vegan and cruelty-free made in small batches in Australia.

They do not use any toxins in their products and are proud of making formulas that are suited to all skin types, even sensitive skin.

About The Concealer

Dirty Hippie’s Mineral cream concealers come in three light shades: Moonlit, Sunkissed, and Goddess. Their shade limitation is one major downside to their vegan concealers, but if your skin tone fits what they offer, then go for it.

This concealer offers medium to full coverage. It visibly diminishes dark circles and any breakouts with ease. The creamy formula absorbs very quickly, refining skin and leaving a beautiful, smooth finish.

Plus, the way this multitasking concealer masks imperfections enables it to double as a foundation if you apply it very lightly. The brightening formula covers all you need while also adding a bit of luminescence to your skin.

We love multipurpose items as they can really allow you to downsize your beauty collection and focus on what’s essential. Plus, it’s totally enough to just use concealer if you’re going for natural-looking coverage.

It also has a very low comedogenic factor, which indicates how much a particular product can clog your pores.

Lastly, you can get this product in sample sizes of 3g as well as 15/30g tins.

Ingredients & Packaging

This concealer, like all of Dirty Hippie’s products, is cruelty-free, vegan, and does not contain any toxins. Instead, it contains skin-loving ingredients that help in revitalizing and repairing skin.

Compared to other vegan concealers, this one has a pretty short list of ingredients. Here’s the full list:

  • Fractionated Coconut oil
  • Jojoba Esters
  • Hydrogenated Ethylhexyl Olivate
  • Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables
  • Cetearyl Olivate
  • Sorbitan Olivate
  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Mica
  • Non-micronized Zinc Oxide
  • Iron Oxides
  • Naturally derived Vitamin E

Nearly all of these ingredients are certified organic.

The jojoba esters in and the olive-derived ingredients ensure the creamy consistency and the long-wearing quality of the concealer.

The oils in the formula absorb fairly quickly which helps lower the comedogenic factor. On the other hand, the sericite mica keeps it a radiant creamy concealer that’ll keep your skin bright and glowing.

All Dirty Hippie ingredients are ethically sourced and fair trade where required. On top of that, these vegan concealers come in an aluminum tin that is fully reusable and recyclable. If you are in Australia, you can get the container refilled as well.

All in all, this is a pretty sustainable concealer with consideration not only on the product itself but also with regards to packaging.

Brand Values

Dirty Hippe Cosmetics is all about making products ethically in small batches. Each item is handmade in Australia using only ethically sourced ingredients.

They are inclined towards sustainability and most of their packaging is zero waste. They even have a program where they take back empties so long as you are within Australia.

Overall, this brand remains a great option for buying eco-conscious vegan concealers. While we think they could still improve on their shade range, they’ve already had a great start.

Hush + Dotti - USA

Hush + Dotti is a family-run business focused on creating clean creative beauty and skincare options. Made with love in small batches, this company makes cosmetics that are non-toxic, organic, cruelty-free, and vegan.

About The Concealer

Hush + Dotti’s Organic concealer can provide minimum to maximum coverage, giving you a flexible concealer that adjusts to whatever the situation at hand.

It is great at covering acne, fine lines, dark circles, and any other off pigmentation you might want to cover. It only comes in 8 colors, all of them leaning towards light and medium tones. We wish there were more in terms of shade range, as there seems to be none available for deep skin tones.

Regardless, this vegan concealer provides adequate coverage that you can build to your preference.

The application is pretty standard. Just apply where needed and blend with any tool you have. This product does come in a pot and does not have an applicator, so you will have to use what you have available.

Don’t worry though, this cream concealer will blend even if you just use your fingers (just make sure your hands are clean).

For a natural finish and crease-free look, you can blend it together with D + H’s foundation. They say it doesn’t always work with other foundations, but it doesn’t hurt to try!

Ingredients & Packaging

This concealer is cruelty-free, vegan, natural, organic, non-toxic, and gluten-free. If you’re looking for a product that meets all those criteria, then this one is a great option. This vegan concealer contains:
  • Castor Seed Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Shea Butter
  • Jojoba Seed Oil
  • Cocoa Butter
All ingredients are sourced organically where applicable and all components are sourced from the U.S. You can check out a full list of the brand’s no list here for a better idea of what they actively try to avoid. Again for this brand, unfortunately, we couldn’t find any information on product packaging.

Brand Values

Hush + Dotti believes that clean beauty is a form of self-love. It entails using only components and products that aren’t harmful to the body and the environment.

We love that they are transparent about their ingredients and disclose each and every one of them, including whatever fragrance may be in the formula.

They also indicate that the ingredients are sourced in the U.S., and they work closely with EWG when making their products.

Veil Cosmetics - USA

Founded by a celebrity make-up artist, Veil Cosmetics strays away from the usual narrative of covering up the skin. Instead, the goal is to uplift and highlight the already existing complexion.

This brand focuses on natural-looking makeup that accentuates instead of hides. With formulas that result in a luminous finish without caking on the product, Veil is giving the beauty industry something new and special.

About The Concealer

The Complexion Fix Concealer is a sheer to medium coverage formula. It isn’t a full coverage concealer, but it certainly does its job well enough.

There are 15 different shades available—a moderately sized collection. This cruelty-free product covers dark circles, sculpts skin, is visibly firming, all while looking natural and flawless. It is crease-resistant even when you build to medium coverage.

This radiant, creamy concealer will glide onto your skin smoothly and cover up any other imperfections like spots or blemishes.

Best of all, it is a super lightweight formula that lets your skin breathe. When you’re wearing makeup throughout the day, it’s super easy to feel like the products you used are slowly starting to drag your face down.

But this one won’t.

Plus, you can use it as a corrector, concealer, or highlighter. When you want to use it to color correct pigmentation, you should choose a deeper shade than normal to neutralize the color.

When you want to use it as a highlighter, just choose a shade that’s a tiny bit lighter to help brighten and enhance your complexion.

Ingredients & Packaging

This concealer is cruelty-free, vegan, and oil-free. It also does not have any parabens, sulfates, and glycol.

Here are some of the ingredients that stood out to us:

  • White Water Lily Extract
  • Peptides
  • Iron Oxides

You can easily view the full list of ingredients on the product listing. However, they have more conventional ingredients in their products and are less like the others we featured on this list.

Note that we could also not find any information about product packaging. As often mentioned in our roundups at Puratium, we cannot always find a list of brands that tick all our eco-conscious boxes (yet).

Brand Values

The goal of Veil Cosmetics is not to mask your face or your features. That’s what sets them apart from others. The product isn’t a full coverage vegan concealer, but that wasn’t really the goal anyway.

Instead, it is to break apart from the norms of beauty and start producing makeup that’s geared towards achieving a lightly veiled, natural look.

Of course, that style isn’t for everyone. But it’s good to know that you’ve got options. However, one major downside is that they had no information on ingredient sourcing or the production process.

Milk Makeup - USA

Milk Makeup is an award-winning NYC-based makeup brand. They are fully vegan, cruelty-free, and use clean and effective ingredients.

MMU is quite a popular brand well-known for products that perform well. Their core belief is that the ultimate expression of oneself is through personal style and experimentation.

About The Concealer

MMU’s Flex Concealer is available in 26 glorious shades! They cover various undertones as well so you’ll be able to find a perfect shade for your skin tone.

This cruelty-free concealer provides medium to full coverage; it’ll cover dark circles or blemishes without any issue. The Flex Concealer blends seamlessly, leaving the skin feeling smooth and flawless.

The product comes with a doe-foot applicator. You can use the applicator to dab little dots in areas where you want to cover and then blend with your fingers. When using fully as a brightening concealer, just add to your under eyes and blend.

To achieve a brighter look, it’s best to use a shade lighter than your skin. This cruelty-free concealer has buildable coverage so you can layer as desired. It will not cake or crease with layering.

Ingredients & Packaging

The Flex Concealer is cruelty-free, vegan, talc-free, and paraben-free. It is made of luxurious and calming ingredients such as the following:

  • Marshmallow Root Extract
  • Blue Lotus
  • Chamomile
  • Lavender Oil
  • Matricaria Flower Extract

The blue lotus will help moisturize your skin while the chamomile will help tone down redness and calm skin. Lavender oil also has soothing properties and will help with dry skin.

The marshmallow root extract is what gives this product its elasticity and versatility, and it helps with reducing creases and cracks in the application.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any information on the product packaging.

Brand Values

Milk Makeup believes in good ingredients that have a great payoff. They make it a point to lean towards clean beauty that works without causing harm.

They are California Prop 65 Compliant and palm-derived ingredients must have an RSPO-certification. Their manufacturing standards are compliant with Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP).

They also believe in creating beauty that is for everyone. We see this manifested in how they have a wide range of shades in their collection—something that many brands still fail at.

Though MMU might fall short in some aspects, they are certainly doing well in making their products available for a wide variety of people.

Can Vegan And Cruelty-free Concealers Give Full Coverage?

Yes!

There are plenty of brands out there flaunting the vegan or natural labels that you would want to steer away from. Products that don’t have animal components and are not tested on animals BUT don’t work are simply not enough.

You would just be wasting precious resources.

makeup powder

However, as much as there are brands that offer subpart products, there is also a (likely) equal amount of brands that do work.

Most of the vegan, cruelty-free concealers we featured on this list already offer medium coverage. With enough layering, you will be able to get maximum/full coverage.

Covering your dark circles, blemishes, and the like has never been this easy. If you want to transition to cleaner beauty but you’re afraid many of the products won’t replace what you already have, don’t be.

Innovation and the right motivations have spurred us into a world with more choices than ever. Vegan options are no longer below average and not worthy of your time. In some cases, they might even be better than the current cult favorite today.

Final Thoughts

That’s it. A solid list of vegan and cruelty-free concealers, all from 100% vegan brands.

You might not have liked any of the ones on this list, or maybe they’re not within your locality, but at least we hope we helped you decipher truly eco and vegan beauty brands.

You now have a basic foundation of how to buy concealer ethically and responsibly. As long as you bear in mind what we laid out here, you will find the perfect one for you.

One thing we noticed heavily in our quest for the best began concealer is that there are so many brands that offer very limited shades.

Our lesson of the day is that it is clear that being inclusive of a wide range of skin tones is still something many brands need to work on.
